EDUCATION IS OUR DEFENSE!

EDUCATION IS OUR DEFENSE!
We live in a country where money is preferred over education. Scripturally speaking, money is a defense, and knowledge is also a defense. But more importantly, the same bible says that knowledge has an excellency over money, because knowledge gives life to them that have it. Over the years, money has accomplished great things for us – even though they never stand the test of time. But I believe that the reason why nothing lasts in this nation is because the knowledge to preserve them is not adequate.
Knowledge is power, and money without power is meaningless. Our money should first be invested into acquisition of knowledge before anything else. Just imagine, if the amount of money that was released for fuel subsidy in the last 8 years was invested into educating our youths, won’t Nigeria be standing out today? What’s the use of cheap fuel when it can’t take me to school? Fuel subsidy may affect anything, but it should not be allowed to affect education!
Self-discovery is the beginning of development; but no one can discover his potentials until he is educated. Education was accessible and affordable for Bill Gates, that’s how he managed to discover his potentials, and that is why he could drop out with a decision to personally develop himself. Mark Zuckerberg didn’t find it so difficult to be educated, and today he’s in charge of many people’s time. I’m not saying every educated person would be useful to the nation, I’m saying that usefulness begins with education.
Let’s build research & development centers – where people can visit to think innovatively. Let’s build free internet facilities around the local governments – so that people can easily explore. What happened to our libraries? Perhaps we have some, but the structures hardly motivate anyone to study in them. If we can raise a standard in our educational system, there’d be no need to pay diamonds as tuition fees to private institutions.
Why would a student sit at home for years, all in the name of “NO ADMISSION”? Why is it so difficult to gain admission? Why do we still have obsolete courses in school? Let’s make it a top priority to thoroughly educate Nigerian Youths. Let admission into the University be automated; let courses be given based on the inspired interest of individuals. It’s easier to develop a failure in school than at home; the youths we send home are the ones that eventually become touts, cultists and armed robbers. Let’s embrace our youths and carry them on our shoulder, they are the future of this nation.
